Send InquiryAbout Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in one or both breasts. These cancer cells have the potential to spread (metastasize) to adjacent tissues, forming a mass or tumor. The cells can spread throughout the breast, to nearby lymph nodes and tissues, and to other regions of the body.
The most prevalent form of breast cancer originates in the breast ducts and is known as ductal carcinoma. The second most common type is lobular carcinoma, which develops in the breast lobes.
When abnormal cells in the breast ducts or lobes are confined to their original location and haven't spread, they are considered noninvasive or "in situ" (pronounced "in-SY-too"). These types of breast cancer include:
Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a precancerous condition that may advance to breast cancer. The abnormal cells are limited to the ducts of the breast.
Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) is not classified as cancer since the cells do not spread. However, having LCIS elevates an individual's chances of developing breast cancer in the future.
Breast cancer can develop in individuals who do not identify as female but possess breast tissue. It can also occur after breast reduction or mastectomy. Less common forms of invasive breast cancer include inflammatory breast cancer and male breast cancer.
What causes it?
While the exact causes of breast cancer are unknown, certain factors can heighten the risk of developing it, such as advanced age and personal health history.
What are the symptoms?
A painless lump or thickening in the breast or underarm is the most common symptom of breast cancer. However, early detection through mammograms is possible before a lump is noticeable. Other signs include changes in the size, shape, or appearance of the breast, as well as the nipple turning inward, developing scaliness, or leaking fluid.
